Privacy policy

This policy explains which personal data FrenchTech Brussels ASBL processes when you visit this website, subscribe to our newsletter or register for our events, or write to us, and what your rights are. It applies in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Belgian Act of 30 July 2018.

Data processed, purposes and legal bases

Visiting the website

Like any web server, our host’s server records technical logs: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser used. They are used solely to ensure the operation and security of the website (legitimate interest) and are kept for a maximum of 12 months. We do not use any audience measurement or advertising tools.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, we process your email address and, where applicable, your name and organisation, to send you our news and invitations (consent). Subscription and sending are handled by Mailchimp. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email; your data is then removed from the list.

Event registrations

To organise our events, we process the data you provide when registering: first name, last name, email address, organisation and position (performance of your registration request). Registrations may go through a ticketing platform, whose privacy policy then also applies. When an event is held at a partner’s premises, the list of participants may be shared with that partner for access and security purposes; you are informed of this when you register. This data is kept for 3 years after the event, so that we can invite you to similar events, unless you object.

Email exchanges

When you write to us, we use your contact details and the content of your message to reply and follow up on our relationship (legitimate interest). These exchanges are kept for 3 years after the last contact.

Audience measurement

We measure the audience of this website with Matomo, installed on our own hosting (OVH, France): no data is shared with a third party. Matomo is configured according to the conditions of the French data protection authority (CNIL) for audience measurement exempt from consent: it sets no cookie, IP addresses are anonymised (the last two bytes are masked) before any processing, no user identifier is recorded, the data is used only to produce anonymous statistics on visits and is kept for no more than 25 months.

Cookies

The website only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for its operation, which do not require your consent. If you object to audience measurement above, a cookie is set to remember your choice.

Videos and media files on this website are stored and delivered by Scaleway (France). A video is only downloaded when you press play. Playing it sets no cookie and involves no third-party tracking; as with any web request, Scaleway receives your IP address in order to deliver the file.

Recipients and processors

Your data is never sold or rented. It is only accessible to the volunteer members of the association who need it, and to the following providers, solely for the service they provide to us:

• OVH SAS (France): website hosting
• Google (Google Workspace): the association’s email
• Intuit Mailchimp (United States): newsletter management
• ticketing platforms, for example Eventbrite (United States): event registrations
• Scaleway SAS (France): storage and delivery of videos and media files

Where data is transferred outside the European Union, these transfers are governed by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework to which these providers adhere, or by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your data, as well as the right to object. Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To exercise these rights, write to hello@frenchtech-brussels.com; we will reply within one month.

If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels (www.dataprotectionauthority.be).

Security

The website is served over HTTPS, kept up to date and protected by an application firewall; access to its administration is limited to the people who need it.

Changes

This policy may change, in particular if we add new services to the website. The date of the last update appears at the top of the page. See also our legal notice.
